This day ( January 18, 1943), in Richmond, Virginia, is born Al Foster,an American jazz drumme who played with Miles Davis’s large funk fusion group in the 70s and was also part of Miles’ comeback album ‘The Man With the Horn of 1981, the only musician to play in Miles’ band for both periods.

Via TheNJUnderground.comThe Roots released a third installment of their series of short films accompanying their upcoming album, Undun, this week.


McCoy Tyner is presently touring Europe. You can catch him below playing “Fly with the Wind” in Zagreb, Croatia on November 10 2011 or read the Independent review of his Barbican concert in London. ” The opening “Fly with the Wind” clocks in at 16 minutes of creative group invention, with Tyner setting out the theme before the band strides in.
