@The New York Times : Weil said : “I decided to develop a type of musical play which leans more and more toward opera,” Kurt Weill declared in 1946, after he fled Nazi Germany and came to New York. ”In the 11 years I’ve been here, the musical theater on Broadway has developed tremendously,” he added, referring primarily to his own contributions.

@Kurt Weill Festival Dessau : Back in 1926 Kurt Weill proclaimed jazz to be the “rhythm of our times”. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that this genre was a big influence on the music of this Dessau composer.

@United States Holocaust Memorial Museum : : We Will Never Die was a dramatic pageant staged before an audience of 40,000 at Madison Square Garden on March 9, 1943, to raise public awareness of the mass murder of the European Jews.

@The Songwriters Hall of Fame : Weill died prematurely in New York just after his 50th birthday, on April 3, 1950. Four years after Weill’s death, Marc Blitzstein’s English-language version of Der Dreigroschenoper became a hit off-Broadway in New York as The Threepenny Opera, starring Lotte Lenyz, sparking a revival of interest in Weill’s work.
