Mary Lou Williams >>

@Jazz Standards : On April 30, 1935, Duke Ellington and His Orchestra introduced “In a Sentimental Mood.” which enjoyed a wave of popularity in the 1930’s. In an age of radio, “In a Sentimental Mood” was the theme song for no less than nine radio shows.

@Wikipedia : Ellington said “In Durham, North Carolina, I a party, I was playing piano when another one of our friends had some trouble with two chicks. To pacify them, I composed this there and then, with one chick standing on each side of the piano.”

@Wikipedia : : What makes the original recording(s) of Mood Indigo so interesting is the fact that Ellington has taken the traditional front-line of trumpet, trombone and clarinet, and turned them “upside down”.

@International Lyrics Playground : Dorothy Fields (the lyricist) wrote “I’m in the mood for love. Simply because you’re near me. Funny, but when you’re near me. I’m in the mood for love.” ( a song about female horniness?)

@In the Mood for Love (the movie) : Director Wong Kar-Wai writes : “It happily reunites me with Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung. In a sense, this film answers the question I’ve been asking myself for so long”.

@Songfacts : In The Mood is an expression that indicates a desire to have sex. It’s pretty innocent now, but was a little racy at the time. (see!)

@Swing, jazz and blues - Dance to the music : : What many people don’t know is that the main theme in the song comes from Tar Paper Stomp by Wingy Manone. The Glenn Miller version is credited to Joseph C Garland.

@The Glenn Miller Birthplace Society : Arriving in London, the Glen Miller band was quartered in an area in constant barrage by German V-1 bombs. Glenn made arrangements for the unit to move to new quarters in Bedford. The very next day (after the moving)a buzz bomb landed in front of their old quarters, destroying the building and killing 100 people.

@HistoryNet : On June 5, 1994, a crowd of two thousand, which includes Her Majesty The Queen Mother, listens to the very same tune played by a U.S. Air Force contingent in Portsmouth.
