Big Band Baby

“Big Band Baby”, a compilation with Big Bands playing songs about “Babies”. It has all the major orchestras from Bob Florence to Quincy Jones including the Barry White’s Love Unlimited Orchestra.

@NationMaster : Cesar Concepcion, born in 1948 in Cayey, Puerto Rico, brought the music of his native land to Latin American ballroom dancing, and ballrooms all over the world. He popularised the Plena as a Latin song style.

@Hep Records : When Artie Shaw received a medical discharge and Artie Shaw’s Navy Band’s leadership fell to Donahue. A few months later the reorganised band with a Donahue inspired library departed for Britain as part of the preparation for D-Day and was grandly named the U.S. Navy Band of the Liberation Forces.

@Swing Music Net : In the late 1930s and early 1940s, when Kansas City was a hotbed of jazz activity, Mr. McShann was in the thick of the action. He landed in Kansas City in the 1930s where he found a rowdy town whose lax moral code created an ideal environment for nightclubs and musicians.

@S p a c e A g e P o p M u s i c : Someone suggested Bob Florence shift his band to the Hollywood Musician’s Union local rehearsal hall, and he started a weekly session that quickly proved a great word-of-mouth success. Session players were looking for an outlet for their more creative side, and Florence soon had ace musicians vying for spots in his group.

@Ask.com : Plus Jimmie Lunceford’s was the first orchestra to feature high-note trumpeters (starting with Tommy Stevenson in 1934) and had a strong influence on the early Stan Kenton Orchestra.

@allmusic : Billy May’s arrangements for Sinatra, beginning with Come Fly With Me (1957) and ending with Trilogy (1979), are often in a walloping, brassy, even taunting swing mode, generating some of the singer’s most swaggering vocals.

@Wikipedia : : “Personally, I like classics,” Buddy Johnson told Down Beat magazine, “but our bread and butter is in the South. The music I play has a Southern tinge to it. They understand it down there.”

@IMDB : Patti Palmer was his first wife’s stage name. Her birth name was Esther Calonico. When Jerry Lewis first met her in Detroit in August 1944, she was a singer with Ted Fio Rito and his Orchestra. Shortly thereafter she joined Jimmy Dorsey and his Orchestra.
